About Dr. Highshaw
Dr Ralph Highshaw is an experienced Urologist who resides in Anaheim Hills with his wife and son and his Urology practice is based in Southern California.
While some people fall into their careers, from the beginning Dr Highshaw knew his future was in medicine. Urology quickly became his focus and intense study and training in the field quickly followed and continued for the better part of 20 years.
He is very educated in and passionate about his specialty and was a true student to his trade focusing on the importance of study as well as practice in Urology.
Ralph A Highshaw, M.D. earned his B.S. in Biology and graduated from Loyola University. Dr Highshaw began his research interests in college at the Drew Medical Center Research Department where he researched sickle cell anemia. This research led to published works as a contributing author in the The Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal study titled “In vitro lymphocyte blastogenic responses and cytokine production in sickle cell disease patients with acute pneumonia”.
He was awarded his medical degree from the University of Southern California School of Medicine in Los Angeles where he received 5 awards including the Dean’s Award, USC Award, Retrovich Award, Linden Award and Shaw Award.
Dr Highshaw completed his general surgery training at USC Medical Center. He then participated in the USC School of Medicine, Department of Genetics and Biochemistry as a National Cancer Institute Postdoctoral Fellow where he was a contributing author to published papers on their research of prostate cancer and genetics.
Following his extensive research in the field of Urology, Dr Highshaw completed urology residency at the University of California, Davis, Sacramento. During his residency he was awarded first place in the Northern California Urology Residency Conference in 1999 and was awarded second place at both the National Medical Association Research Forum and the Northern California Urology Resident Research Conference in 2002.
After his residency, Dr Highshaw was accepted to the MD Anderson Cancer Center Urologic Oncology Fellowship where he researched Urological Cancers including cancer of the bladder, testes, kidney, prostate and renal cancer. During his fellowship he was awarded the prestigious American Foundation of Urologic Disease (AFUD) Award. He was also the recipient of the Pfizer’s Scholar in Urology Award and the American Association of Cancer Research Minority Scholar Award for research in bladder cancer.
With his immense training, study, accolades and experience under his belt Dr Highshaw became a Board Certified Urologist receiving his diploma from the American Board of Urology and established a full-time private urology practice dedicated to the minimally invasive and highly successful treatment of urologic disease for both men, women and children and other urologic needs including vasectomies, incontinence and erectile dysfunction.
In addition to his full time practice, Dr Highshaw also serves as the Director of Prostate Cancer Education and Support Group for the Riverside Medical Clinic Foundation, is the Chairman for the Department of Surgery at Corona Regional Medical Center and serves on multiple committees for quality of patient care.
